The event decompresssion, 10 years Ruangrupa has, as you understand by now, many different projects and shows.
‘The archive’ shown in the Galeri Nasional along the other projects is to me the real thing. The show with new works or isolated older works are attempts and defeated by the force of the archive. The archive gives hints how has been worked, what is intended by contextual working, how hanging around is used, how lifestyle got involved, … . All the vivid vibes are there and that is also what happens when hanging around in the house at Tebet. Not something specifically is taking place but a lot is rolling. Just like I met an interesting person from Vietnam, Nguyen Nhu Huy or Sri Lanka, Lalith Manage. We didn’t talk extensively but they where interesting meetings and point-full without I can say ‘therefore’ or without I want to think what fore.
In that perspective I also like the ruru.net part of the presentations.

_An inform
al meeting on Social design.
Why not? Although there is the film program (a.o. Djakarta 1965) going on and the second day of the music festival, still Ruangrupa finds space and time to organise an incidental and triggering meeting on Social design with a mingled group of people.

As if the RURU.zip, Ruru and Friends, Ruru and network, Jakarta 32 degrees, the lectures and the film program isn’t enough, on 07 January Ruangrupa opened the 10 years ‘multimedia arts in Indonesia’-exhibition as a side-program.

_Another day in good health, starting with muesli in the morning and a very tasteful Gado2 at noon.
(Above, I mentioned already some topics that Ade touched upon this day).
.Partly because of my slowness and my Jakartan behaviour I missed a big part of the lecture of Charles Esche (Director of the Van Abbe museum in Eindhoven, the Netherlands).
It dealt about the topic ‘writing history’, as a museum of course does. he used some quotes from W. Benjamin on the concept of history in perspective of museum, art, institutions, ...).

_I’m back on tracks. I feel good, my body allows me again to be confident. I can again enjoy to conquer the streets of Jakarta, enjoy the food and enjoy as well some nice talks at the galeri nasional. (Marco Paolo Rolla asked me to enjoy the food since he wasn’t able to come due to financial reasons. The Brasilia Indonesia cultural pack has yet to be made or this distance is still to far).
_I attended some lectures with organisations that ruangrupa is connected with and lectures with writers, curators, thinkers, artist, activist and so on.

_I went with some friends to one of the sea-sides nearby Jakarta in the province of Banten, which once was totally erased by the explosion of the volcano the ‘Krakatau’. One of the largest volcano eruptions ever. Today we are lucky to see the little Krakatau erupting all the time. Since the eruption off the eyavallukyulu (or something like that) in Iceland earlier this year we are familiar with what that can lead to in Europe but here I don’t hear anyone talking about it. Only if we ask people are saying, ya indeed there is some dust coming from there!

28 of December: the opening.
Still a lot of things to copy for the installation I’m making with Ade.
I have never experienced a pain in the back of my neck and head before. I don’t know what to do with the body but I’ll work my way out .Tonight is the opening, so things need to be undertaken. Ok, I didn’t slept a lot and around the hotel there are heavy works from early in the morning. But hey, everyone here is working day and night with here and there a couple of hours of sleep.

_ Jakarta 32 degrees meeting:
13th of December, Ade txt me that I should come and see the final presentations in preparation of the Jakarta 32 degrees project. A swarm of motorcycles are displayed around the gate of Ruangrupa.
Jakarta 32 degrees is a project started by Ruangrupa in 2004 and happens every other year. It brings students together of different universities from different study fields on a voluntary basis.

Almost there, and then you are there.
The exhibition opened and in spite of the storm, which threatend to blow everything away and partly did, there were something lke 1500 (I would say) visitors. The rain avoid the museum to be packed as a sardine can.
