INVITATION
In November Jimmy Ogonga, visual artist and Program Director of the Nairobi Arts Trust – Centre for Contemporary Art of East Africa (CCAEA), will be a guest of the international visitor’s program of the Mondriaan Foundation. On the 18th of November he will give a presentation on the CCAEA, followed by an interview with Jelle Bouwhuis, director of Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam. We cordially invite you to attend this presentation.
The Mondriaan Foundation International Visitor’s Program was initiated in 1996. Each year we invite a number of professionals from other countries for an intensive introduction to contemporary arts from the Netherlands. With these individually tailored programs we promote an international interest and awareness of contemporary art in our country. Our guests are active in museums and project spaces, are independent curators or critics.
Ogonga’s presentation also fits in Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam’s research project ‘Africa Reflected’. This project looks closely at representations of Africa within contemporary art production, with the aim of finding alternatives to predominantly stereotypical mass media representations. The research is designed to arrive at a critical discourse: it is after all about how our images of Africa are shaped, and how we seek to nuance this with the support of visual art. www.smba.nl/en/special-projects/africa-reflected
The presentation will take place on Wednesday November, 18 from 20.00 to 21.30 hrs at Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, Rozenstraat 59, Amsterdam, T +31 20 4220471, www.smba.nl. Please let us know if you will be attending via Haco de Ridder, h.deridder@mondriaanfoundation.nl.
