The BAT Centre Trust is a private, non-profit organisation dedicated to impacting on the cultural life of South Africa by nurturing and promoting the arts and culture of KwaZulu-Natal. It was established in 1995 with the purpose of providing a platform for disadvantaged artists and to facilitate the growth and promotion of the grassroots, the experimental, cross-over trends and artistic innovation. Over the years, BAT Centre has developed into a platform for local, national and international collaborations.
Cascoland brings together a wide range of artistic expressions, working with established artists and those still in their formative stages.
Cascoland Durban 2008 - This innovative project is realised through the collaboration between The Bat Centre (Durban), The Cascoland, independent Durban artists, South African visual arts students and the local community. It features a series of artistic interventions, construction of architectural objects in public spaces and workshops, with the aim to create awareness of urban issues, mobility and the use of public spaces in a positive and creative framework.
