Casa Tres Patios was founded in 2006, as an independent artist run non-profit foundation based in Medellin, Colombia. Due to the violent history of the past 25 years Medellin had been somewhat culturally isolated. There were few possibilities for the art community to share experiences with Latin American or other international artists.
The mission of Casa Tres Patios is to promote contemporary art and to serve as a meeting place or intersection for artists of various disciplines and cultures. Through a continuing program of activities coordinated by local, national and international artists and art organisations, they aim to promote exhibitions, competitions, conferences, lectures and workshops that focus on artistic intellectual, cultural exchange and development.

Casa Tres Patios provides a residency program for experimental and non-commercial art projects. The goal is to provide a space where artists of various disciplines and cultures can gather in order to develop projects, to learn from one another by sharing artistic and cultural experiences and to provide the local community with the possibility of experiencing the methodology and creative process of the invited artist. From 2006 onwards Casa Tres Patios has sponsored over 30 exhibitions and hosted 26 artists from Latin America, Europe and the U.S.
In 2009 Arts Collaboratory provided funding for a pilot residency project, to be able to sponsor an artist from a Southern country to come to work and develop projects in the Casa Tres Patios, for a period of three months. The artist Umesh Kumar P.N. from Bangalore, India was awarded the residency.
Umesh gave 3 public lectures in which he discussed his work, contemporary art in India and historical and cultural information. He collaborated with several local artists and included the work resulting from 4 of these collaborations in an exhibit in the Casa Tres Patios.
