Description

Kiosko runs a programme of residencies for artists from Bolivia and abroad in the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, with the aim of widening artistic cultural exchange, focusing on contemporary artistic practice.

The residency consists of the work period, intensive work and interaction, along with events and activities where local and national artists, students, professionals, friends from the art world and the general public participate. Kiosko provides housing and studio space, plus living and working expenses for two months. Although initially each artist works on the project they presented when they applied to the programme, this is open to the incorporation of new ideas during its development.

With the passing of time, Kiosko has managed to make a moving circuit of artists from all over the world, all contributing to expand the cultural movement of the region. The programmes and activities that take place within the Simple Estudios project and Kiosko gallery include exhibitions of Bolivian and international artists, participation in art fairs and contemporary art events outside Bolivia, workshops and graphic design events, competitions, and cultural and editorial management.

During 2007 and 2008, Kiosko worked in collaboration with the Latin American network of Triangle Arts Trust to encourage artistic exchange. Within this multicultural framework new projects have emerged, such as the case of the artist Gandlf Gavan, who had a residency at Kiosko in 2008. In June 2009 Gavan was invited to make a curatorship with more than 12 international artists and a series of conferences in the Fundación Simón I. Patinio.
