Description

"Empire: Legacy of the World's First Corporation" is an ongoing new media project that investigates the architectural, cultural and ethnic traces left behind by Dutch East India Company’s traders and colonists in Asia and Africa. All work in the project is made on location and in collaboration with local arts organizations and receives funding from Fonds BKVB and the Mondriaan Foundation.

The makers

Kel O’Neill (US) & Eline Jongsma (NL) work as a two-person filmmaking team. They first collaborated while attending an artist residency in Prishtina, Kosovo in 2006. Since then, their works have shown at galleries and film festivals all over the world, as well as on television. In addition, they are the US Correspondents for Metropolis TV, a documentary program produced by VPRO Television in the Netherlands, and global correspondents for the VJ Movement, a global videojournalism agency.
